Let It Be Good Enough

Love the concept that creativity is about a general trend rather than having defined endpoints. I recognize this in my own creative work right now, where I’m returning to past songs I’ve written… and tinkering with them, making adjustments, rewriting verses.

Today’s world is different, to say the least: Sitting patiently through a Lost Spring until it devolved into a Lost Summer. Many of us seek connection in creative work; it’s why we do it. Yesterday’s songs might not capture today’s moment. But with a little adjustment, just maybe they will.

When I see these opportunities, I can’t resist at least making the effort. Like anything in the creative process, sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t.

But is it all progressing towards something? Or will perfectionism get in the way, stopping progress and “cutting this trendline short?” All we can do is keep making the effort and trying to keep perfectionism from creeping in.

And if that’s all that you can do right now
Let it be good enough for you right now

Excerpted from “Good Enough” by my band, The Rockmores (lyrics by Peter Fernandez). Video included here as a persistent reminder whenever you need it: You are doing great, and it’s enough.
